Alien Looking Pink Balls

Cynipid wasps create these “alien looking” spiked ball on wild rose leaves

These spiny pink balls are the result of wasp laying eggs inside the leaf. A chemical reaction causes the leaf to mutate protecting the wasp larva and allowing it to grow safely inside.
