Kootenay National Park 100th Anniversary Project

2020 will be the 100th Anniversary of the creation of Kootenay National Park. The Friends of Kootenay are working with Parks Canada on a project to celebrate this special occasion.

To encourage people to get out of their vehicles and experience Kootenay National Park, Parks Canada and the Friends of Kootenay are working on an interpretive walk along the path from the Village of Radium Hot Springs to the Radium Hot Springs pools. Interpretative panels will be placed at three locations along the path, starting at Shell Park (where “The Mountains Shall Bring Peace to the People” sign is located), and will touch on the subjects of the geology, ecology, and human history around the Sinclair Canyon area of Kootenay National Park and the Columbia Valley.

Parks Canada will be funding the design and creation of the signs but will only be funding the installation of the signs within Kootenay National Park. The Friends of Kootenay will be working on raising funds for the signs located within the village in Shell Park and the estimated cost of the installation and creation of the display stands will be around $10,000.

We are very excited for the potential of this Kootenay National Park 100th Anniversary project and are requesting donations to help fund the displays within the Village of Radium Hot Springs. Any donation to this project would be greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to donate via cheque, payable to:
