Headbanger Trail ChallengeI have enjoyed running the spectacular and scenic trails in the Radium Hot Springs area for the past 20 years. Working in partnership with Parks Canada and the Friends of Kootenay National Park, we are proud to offer this unique event and share the trails with you!

Event Highlights

This one of a kind 10.8 run will start in Radium Hot Springs in the beautiful Columbia Valley and take you into one of Canada’s most scenic Mountain Parks, Kootenay National Park.

Course Details

The course begins in the heart of the Village of Radium Hot Springs at the Visitor Info Centre, commencing at 10:00 am. It proceeds into Kootenay National Park following the Juniper Trail, which switchbacks to the top of Sinclair Canyon. Along this stretch runners will experience commanding views of the Columbia Valley and Columbia River Wetlands. The course then drops down to the Radium Hot Springs Mineral Pools and the race’s first water/aid station. Continue running from the mineral pools along the southern rim of Sinclair Canyon to the Redstreak Campground. Another uphill challenge awaits, taking you on the Redstreak Loop Trail, down through the campground to the viewpoint overlooking the Village of Radium Hot Springs, the Columbia Valley and the Purcell Mountains to the west. Your mind and body will be relieved to hit the last leg of the run, a short downhill to the finish at the Visitor Info Centre.

A Fund Raising Effort for Friends of Kootenay

As a volunteer, charitable, non-profit organization, the Friends of Kootenay National Park Association is dedicated to the protection, appreciation, education and understanding of the cultural and natural history of the Kootenay National Park and its surrounding ecosystem, the Columbia Valley.

The Friends support events and activities throughout the year: Junior Naturalist Program, Wild Voices Speakers Series, Sponsor a Bighorn Project, Knapweed Pull, Headbanger Trail Challenge Fund Raiser, and Headbanger tours and more.
